Real Gangsta Wedding: Oracle Fox

HOLY SMOKES! When I saw Mrs. Oracle Fox's wedding, I had to post it immediately. Mr. and Mrs. Oracle Foc got married in Bali in the fall. She has amazing style (as evidenced by her blog, obv).
I just can't get over that dress. It looks like mermaids crafted it from shells at the bottom of the sea.

I'm back, bitches

and I've got some real gansta weddings comin atcha.

Samuel and Jessica's wedding has so many badass and touching elements it makes me wanna dance around in a circle naked with my arms up. You'll see why.

I know the video is like 10 minutes long, so I'll try to give the impatient ones some highlights.

1. Lanterns instead of bridesmaids bouquets (00:48)
2. Drumming down the aisle (00:62)
3. The cutest flower girl outfits (1:41)
4. Sweet bridal headgear (2:22)
5. Green bridal bouquet (2:42)
6. A bride who knows how to rock her tresses and earlobes (2:55)
7. Feet washing! (so much more touching/appropriate than garter groping) (3:00)
8. Irish jig (8:57)

Thanks Colin!

Ashley and Brian

Have you seen Ashley and Brian's wedding? The hair, the deer, the baseball... are amazing. I owe it to Marty from Not the Marrying Kind for turning me on to Jeremy Lawson. I have spent probably the last hour stalking his blog.

1940s Style done right

I have seen a lot of vintage wedding styles lately, and a lot of them, seem a little too much. But, I absolutely loved this bride's style. Her bridesmaids look perfection- sweet and sassy. This how you do it folks!

See more of this stylish wedding here.

Bachelorettes keep it real

The other day, I got an email from Jen about the gangsta bachelorette party she threw for her homegirl Lori, who apparently has mad rappin and worm skillz.

Jen writes,
No male genitalia and princess crowns here! We crafted her some awesome accessories that brought old school and new school together.

Gangstas come in all shapes and sizes. These girls know how to keep it real. Check it out.

Lori, the gangsta bride-to-be, rockin' a thick chain. (It reads, "Countdown to the wedding.")

And obviously, real gangsta chicks knit real gangsta sweaters. Ice cube and NWA got this on backorder.

And a boombox cake with a dash of dopeness comin at yo palate.

You guys are awesome!
Shout out to Lori- Congrats, I hope you and yo gangsta live happily eva afta.

Something for the scrapbook

Here's some decor inspiration for the scrapbook. I'm in love with the flowers, the lanterns, the dark wood, and the total eclectic feel of it in general.

This one reminds me of high school.

Katie and Ian

I love the eas-y breez-y outdoors-y feel of this wedding. It looks so relaxed and fun yet totally chic. I don't know if you can see in the picture, but they used little tree trunks as vases for the flowers.

Another MSW of course.

Real Gangsta Wedding: Robin and Matt

I love all the creativity in this wedding. They seriously have some great ideas. Check it out.

They had cupcakes with fondant wafers that were personalized with stamps!

For the guest book, they used little envelopes with pre-cut pieces of paper for people to write notes on and put other keepsakes in like pictures. Then, it was sealed with a sticker. Cool huh?

On the back of the reply cards, there was a little speech box for people to get creative.

Isn't Robyn's peony and sweet pea bouquet pretty?

Each of the seating cards had little personalized buttons on them for the guests to wear that said things like, "I love ___" and "Mom".

Real Gangsta Wedding: Molly and David

This wedding feels so magical to me. Enjoy!

They hired a band to play traditional Jewish music.

They decided to put fabric up in the trees with words that were important to them on their wedding. Such a great idea!

The bride made her bouquet using fabric pieces and copper wiring to give it shape.

I love how the guests sat on pillows, blankets and chairs. I mean, who really needs chair rental when you have grass, right?

Looks like an amazing, meaningful wedding.

Real Gangsta Wedding: Mike and Des

You know how I get that thing where I get excited and I start typing real fast? Well this is definitely one of those times. It's weddings and freakin' amazing couples like these that got me started blogging. The best disco-roller wedding of the year indeed.

Nice skates! I can't believe Des made her own dress! She looks beautiful!

Love the anticipation in the first pic and the skatin' down the aisle.

Oh yes! Love the costumes and conga line.

How adorable is that cake topper? Made by Ashley Wheeler

So when I emailed Mike (who also happens to be an amazing multimedia designer at Mohawk Street), he got back to me right away, and was kind enough to answer some questions about his gangsta wedding.

Venue?
Wheels family fun center (Durham, North Carolina)

Flowers?
HA! flowers are for chumps.

Food?
pizza and 2 kegs of beer

Music?
disco and funk exclusives selected by us and burned onto some cd's ... mc'd by a smooth voiced radio buddy who works at NPR. Nick Vidinsky

Dress?
desiree made her dress ... she's a former costume designer and makes custom gowns for her friends. Her inspiration was 70's ice skating outfits.

Groom style?

Thrift store sheik.

Shoes?
used skates off ebay for us and everyone else wore the rentals

Photographer?
Many of our friends are pro photojournalists ... so they all brought cameras. Our friend Ray M. Jones of the NYTimes was the official.

Videographer?
our good friend and my video teaching assistant at UNC, Kat Keene Hogue.

Tell me a little bit about your wedding.
We thought weddings were for suckers ... then we devised the master plan to do it all on rollerskates in disco costumes and decided it could actually be a damn fun party. It was. We're not really into skating or anything, but getting up on wheels made us all feel like kids again. All our friends want us to do an annual re-wedding so they can relive the moment.

What was the most gangsta part of your wedding?
You decide ... the whole thing was gangsta. Traditional weddings can suck it.

What was on the playlist?
Ohio players to jaco pastorius to michael jackson

Best moment?
First skate was fun ... we did some old school trix
